This charming succulent forms tight rosettes covered in delicate, cobweb-like hairs, giving it a unique, ethereal appearance. It's incredibly hardy and perfect for dry, sunny spots.

Growth

Low-growing, mat-forming evergreen succulent perennial. Forms rosettes typically 2-8 cm (1-3 inches) in diameter, spreading via offsets to 30 cm (12 inches) wide.

Leaf

Fleshy, pointed leaves, usually green, often with red tips, especially in sun or cold. Rosettes are famously covered in fine, silvery-white, cobweb-like hairs.

Flower

Produces upright stems up to 15 cm (6 inches) tall bearing clusters of small, star-shaped, pink to reddish-pink flowers. Blooms in summer (July). Rosettes die after flowering but produce many offsets.

Location

Thrives in full sun for best color and compact growth.

Frost hardiness

Excellent (USDA Zones 3-8), highly cold-hardy.

Soil

Requires very well-drained, gritty, poor to average soil. Excellent drainage is critical to prevent rot.

Water

Low water requirement. Extremely drought-tolerant once established.

Use

Ideal for rock gardens, containers, troughs, green roofs, dry stone walls, or between paving stones. Excellent for xeriscaping.

Care

Very low maintenance. Protect from excessive winter wet. Remove spent rosettes (which die after flowering, leaving space for offsets).

Planting time

Best planted in spring or autumn.
