'Taihaku' is a magnificent Japanese flowering cherry, famous for its exceptionally large, pure white, single blossoms (5-6 cm wide) that appear in mid to late spring (April-May).

Growth

A vigorous, fast-growing deciduous tree forming a broad, spreading crown. Reaches 5-7 m (16-23 ft) tall and 3-8 m (10-26 ft) wide.

Leaf

Emerge bronze-red, mature to green, and turn yellow/orange in autumn.

Location

Full sun for best bloom and fall color.

Frost hardiness

Very good (USDA Zones 5-8).

Soil

Prefers moist, fertile, well-drained loams. Avoid waterlogging.

Use

Outstanding specimen tree for dramatic spring display.

Care

Low maintenance. Minimal pruning in mid-summer.
