The Kirishima azalea 'Diamant Rosa'® (Rhododendron obtusum) produces a veritable sea of pink-coloured flowers from May to June. Its winter-green foliage is dark green. This compact-growing shrub usually reaches a height of 40 - 60 cm and a width of 50 to 60 cm. A semi-shady (to shady) location and well-drained, nutrient-rich, acidic soil create ideal conditions for healthy growth. The Kirishima azalea 'Diamant Rosa'® is well tolerant of frost.

Growth

Kirishima azalea 'Diamant Rosa'® is a compact growing small shrub. It usually reaches a height of 40 - 60 cm and is approx. 50 - 60 cm wide. Slow-growing.

The Kirishima azalea 'Diamant Rosa'® is evergreen and has dark green, glossy, lanceolate leaves.

Flower

The pink-coloured, funnel-shaped flowers appear from May to June. These grow to about 2 - 3 cm in size.

Root

Rhododendron obtusum 'Diamant Rosa'® is a shallow-rooting plant and, depending on the soil, forms finely branched roots.

Location

Preferred location in semi-shady to shady position.

Frost hardiness

The Kirishima azalea 'Diamant Rosa'® has good frost hardiness.

Soil

Loose, humus-rich, sufficiently moist but water-permeable and well-aerated soil is preferred.

Use

Group planting, grave, rock garden, small/front garden

Water

Water regularly and allow the soil to dry out in the meantime.

Care

- Yellow leaves on rhododendrons can be a sign of too high a lime content in the soil. Iron and magnesium fertiliser, for example, can help.
- This plant should only be watered with lime-free water. Rainwater is particularly suitable for this purpose.
- Cut back frozen shoots to the healthy wood as soon as there is no longer any danger of frost.

No pruning is necessary for this plant.
