European larch (Larix decidua)r

The European larch (Larix decidua) is a large tree that grows in a conical shape and usually reaches a height of approx. 35 m and a width of approx. 20 m. Its needle-shaped leaves are light green in color. In autumn, they turn a beautiful golden yellow. Decorative brown cones adorn Larix decidua from September onwards. This tree is highly frost-tolerant and prefers well-drained, nutrient-rich soil in a sunny location.

Growth
European larch is a large tree with a conical shape and a translucent crown. It usually reaches a height of 25–35 m and a width of approx. 15–20 m. It generally grows 45–50 cm per year.

Leaves

European larch is deciduous. Its needles are light green. European larch turns a bright golden yellow in autumn.

Bark
Reddish-brown, scaly bark makes this plant an eye-catcher in any garden.


Fruit
The cones of Larix decidua appear from September onwards. The young cones are golden yellow in color.

Larix decidua is a heart-rooted plant.

The plant has moderate water requirements.

Care

Cut and saw wounds as well as broken branches should be treated with a wound sealant as soon as possible to prevent pathogens from entering the plant.

Container plants can be planted all year round, except when the ground is frozen or during summer heat (above 30°C).
