Playground greening in Gorki Park, Moscow

10Jan 2019

Moscow's famous Gorki Park celebrated its 90th birthday last year. Just in time for the anniversary, a fantastic new children's playground was built next to the 'Garage', the Museum of Contemporary Art - over an area of roughly 2 hectares(!). The AFA Group (Landscapes and Playscapes) assumed responsibility for the planning of this major project and implemented their ideas in collaboration with the German company Richter Spielgeräte GmbH and ourselves - the Lorberg tree nursery. Over 50 trees and shrubs, including avenue trees, multi-stem trees, ornamental apples and junipers, made the long journey from Tremmen to Moscow and now decorate this unique location in Gorki Park.

The play oasis in the heart of the Russian metropolis has already become known as 'Russia's most beautiful playground' and adults as well as children have come to feel the allure of the place. With their many years of experience in playground planning the AFA Group has created more than just a place to romp around. The aesthetically satisfying greening concept makes for a place with character. The large trees lend a calm and serenity to the colourful hustle and bustle of the visitors, as well as providing welcome spots of shade here and there.
